Issue 1 May 07

Hello! I am pleased to be adding a new part to my website which will include some of the wonderful ways of working with story in both Australia and overseas. This issues features Jenni Cargill Strong’s storytelling workshop series in Byron Bay hinterland. Jenni is a captivating storyteller with a deep passion and understanding for the oral tradition of storytelling and its diverse contemporary forms.  I highly recommend all of the workshops which Jenni is hosting this year and look forward to enjoying a growing community of storytellers, story lovers and people who work with story in their personal and professional lives.

Happy reading!

in the midst of overwhelming noise and  distraction,
the  voice of story is calling us to remember our true  selves.’

WHO ARE THE WORKSHOPS FOR?
At Story Tree Workshops, men and women from  all walks of life and levels of experience are more than welcome.  The common thread is story and storytelling- whether you  are  learning to write your life story, enliven your corporate or community   presentation, deepen your spiritual quest or simply gain confidence  to tell  stories to your grandchildren. You don’t need any experience  in storytelling to come along. In fact, you don’t even need to know what storytelling is! Just bring your curiosity! In the workshops participants  work at their own level and you won’t have to get up and perform in front  of others –unless you want to! So come and delight with us in the fruits  of the Story Tree - rich, ancient and deeply  nourishing.

WRITING THE  STORIES OF YOUR  LIFE
BRIDGET   BRANDON

A three day retreat in Byron after the Writer’s  Festival. Life Writing is a rich source of laughter, wisdom and community.  It takes you on a journey  through the layers of your life’s meaning.  Your writing skills will evolve naturally and quickly. You don’t need to  be a writer; as well as writing  prompts you’ll be given a variety of  creative approaches to enter your story. Creative “jumpstarts” to  memory gets your pen onto the page and keeps it flowing. These quiet days offer a fluid space for solitude, being with  nature, intimacy with  others, and meditation. You will gain confidence in  bringing your  writing alive; develop your listening and storytelling skills; value your life experience; gain appreciation of your spontaneity and creativity and learn the value of story.
Bridget was the founder of  the  innovative Drama Action Centre in Sydney. She established Storyworks  Australia in 1997. Storyworks teaches people how to write  the story of their  own lives. Along with a vibrant creative career  Bridget is a devoted  meditator. Her deep practice of compassion  gives her a unique ability to listen and to value the small and the large  stories of life.  Visit website
