Gathering in Sofala NSW My
gypsy friend Romano was one of the organizers for the first gathering
here last year & it was a grand affair with days of feasting and
sharing stories as well as long nights around the campfire. I’m
looking forward to joining my friends here this year. October

Week Children's Week is an annual worldwide event that celebrates the right of
children to enjoy childhood and to recognise their talents, skills and
abilities. 'A Caring World Shares' is the theme for Children's Week. In 2007 I enjoyed a very busy Children’s Week storytelling tour in the
Dubbo region, working with early intervention programs and funding from
Families NSW. This year for part of Children’s Week I’ll be in New
Zealand, as a featured storyteller for the Glistening Water Storytelling
Festival. I wish everyone well for their Children’s week festivities. October

Botanic Gardens Its
very exciting to be having a state conference in my own backyard. I have
been a volunteer garden guide this year, and am developing some new
stories around the garden themes. This conference is a great place to be
immersed in plants, plant talk and people who love sharing their love of
Australian native plants. September

part of this national initiative, Wolongong City Council will be hosting
a storytelling show for playgroups and a storytelling workshop for
parents. I’m
delighted to be working in partnership with Wollongong Council and

Residency in the Hawksbury I’m
taking a few days up north to research & write more of my family
history stories, searching through the maze of early colonial history,
pioneer and convict tales. September

Roadshow I’m
excited to be coordinating and cofacilitating the first stage of a three
year regional writers project in the Eurobodalla Braidwood Learning
Community. Local
Poet, Harry Laing and I will be facilitating two days of writing
workshops for a select group of young writers in Years 5 – 8. We will
explore a variety of writing forms and techniques. This initial workshop
will help us survey what young writers are interested in learning, so
that we can design future writing workshops based on their needs and
interest. More

explore the depths of meaning within oral history as story. This
workshop will give you insights into the complexities and sensitivities
of working with stories at every stage of oral history production from
research to final representation. You will take a look at how the
context of the interview shapes the story and how the process and form
of representation impacts on the layers of truth within the story. It's

theme for this year’s conference is “Community Engagement: A
Rewarding Business”. Anna
Jarrett will present an afternoon workshop on Thursday April 17 titled “Connecting
Communities Through Storytelling” Storytelling helps lay strong foundations for
community building and creative programs. My work as a storyteller is to
facilitate storytelling in a diversity of contemporary contexts which
are defined by individual and community needs. This workshop will
explore a variety of community storytelling project models and discuss
some of the underlying principles and processes which contribute to
sustainable social change.

we live in unity with each other. This special Harmony event is

Desiree will drum in the even with traditional African drumming and
